Found by Dorothy in the "Wonderful Wizard of Oz", luckily my Tin Woodsman has less of a tendancy to rust. Still, just to be sure, he also carries his trusty oil can with him. He brings his ax along to help clear the path for Dorothy and the other travelers to reach the amazing Emerald City. There, Oz grants him his wish: the gift of a heart, "made entirely of silk and stuffed with sawdust." The Wizard soldered it into the Tin Man's chest in the story -- but I've left his out for you to see. Sometimes it's important that we show those we love just what our hearts really look like.
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was written by L. Frank Baum and published in 1900. However, the book lapsed into public domain in 1956, so the characters are available for free use in other works -- such as my dolls!
